The start of a great adventure. I will tell you about our first week in Zlin, a city in Czech Republic. Together with three other colleagues from Thomas More Kempen we are doing our internship at the Tomas Bata University in Zlin.
Our experience started Monday morning when we were waiting for our flight to BRNO, Czech Republic. When we finally arrived in BRNO we noticed not so much a change. The weather was as bad as in Belgium, only the language was ‘a bit’ different.
When we finally arrived in Zlin, Patrik, our buddy from the Erasmus Group was waiting for us. He guided us to our student accommodation and we dropped our luggage here. Then Patrik gave us four a tour through Zlin.
After this great tour we got back to our dorm and we did an inspection of our rooms and we met our neighbours. They are really friendly guys and gave us a bit more information about the dorms.
The next day we still had no internet thus our solution was to go to the McDonald’s to let our exchange coordinator know that we arrived safely. During the day we also had a meeting with our project managers. They told us what our project would be, or at least a part of it.
During the first week we would need to build artificial robots with Lego EV3. At the moment of writing we are still waiting what our next big project will be.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were quite the same, we went to our faculty U5 (Faculty of Applied Informatics) and worked on our project.
Our first step was to make a complete inventory of our building materials before writing the code.
After the inventory checkup we began to write the code. This was done in C and with the program ROBOTC.
The next important part of our first week was food. We wanted to try our the Czech Food, so we went to a typical looking Czech Restaurant and we ordered something from the menu. Don’t ask me for the name of the restaurant or the food because I cannot spell it.
The thing you should ask me, “How did the food taste?” – It was great!
And after this, typical Czech “Kofola” is also wanted. Well actually only for me. Arne, Angelo and Stanley didn’t like the taste of it.
On Saturday and Sunday we did some schoolwork for our college back in Belgium.
And right now we are waiting for our real big assignment which will be given to us next Tuesday.
